ABOUT ME

Hi, I am Chris, a 32 year old data developer and cloud architect. Since 2013 I have dedicated
my private and professional life to the development of data driven solutions.

I have only truly learned about Effective Altruism through the collapse of FTX and the downfall of Sam Bankman-Fried.
However, the idea of earning to give has resonated with me for many years before.

Data Analysis and Science

Since my first steps developing compliance analysis tools, I have pursued my passion: data analysis and science. Primarily, I have worked with R using and developing various packages, focusing on gaining insights as well as machine learning. I constantly track updates of R packages and trending technologies. From 2017 to 2020 I have worked on various projects conducting data analysis, science and developing Shiny applications.

Data Engineering

Another core strength of mine is data engineering which is often critical to data analysis and science. Having worked with MSSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, AWS Step Functions, MS SSIS, Pentaho PDI and Snakemake during different DE projects I know my way around ETL best practices. For more than a year now I have shifted to using Spark and Scala (using Databricks as well as spark-shell and -submit) for most data engineering projects since the size of data often requires distributed processing.

Creative Solutions

I'm drawn to new ideas and frequently adopt innovative approaches myself. My non-IT interests tennis, drumming, travelling, music, smart homes, reading, and democracy regularly influence the solutions I use, contribute to or develop. More recently, COVID-19 and my sister's wedding led to new projects. Fast prototyping, based on different existing solutions, is my preferred methodology when starting my own projects, allowing me to pick the most suited approach.
